Why We Need Tool Choice: A Developer’s Story

As I landed my first real job as a developer, Britney Spears had the song of the summer, Y2K bugs were about to throw the world into the dark ages, and everyone on my new team used the same tools to code, test, and deploy. As a fresh-out-of-college noob, I was thrown onto tools with steep learning curves resulting in low productivity rates. I thought it was the way it worked and I had to pay my dues to get comfortable with the system.

I have since come to understand that there are better processes. In the words of Britney, Oh baby, baby, how was I supposed to know that something wasn't right here?

User Survey: What Devs Should Know About App Preferences

What users want in your app? What makes a user download one app and pass on another? What keeps them coming back, and why did a rival app get more installs last month? All these and more questions are what devs face every day in their work trying to create products that serve users.

Here at Setapp, we are facing these exact questions (we offer users 210+ apps in a single subscription). This is why this year, for the first time ever, we conveyed a survey of user preferences in Mac apps. In this first-of-its-kind survey, we asked users about their preferences and app choices. I’d like to share these findings to help devs have a better understanding of user preferences and needs.

Productivity Tools and Practices For Software Engineers and Tech Companies

Everyone wants to be more productive without burning out. So, how do you get more done without working more hours? And how do you help the rest of your team improve without taking on the role of taskmaster? The answer is the use of effective tools.

In this article, we'll look at five effective tools software engineers and tech companies can use to speed up their development lifecycle without sacrificing quality. Design systems, code linters, code formatters, continuous integration, and IaaS/PaaS providers are all tools that allow software engineers to streamline mundane work and, in turn, prioritize building their products.

9 Tools For Remote Teams to Stay Connected and Productive

An increasing number of working professionals are choosing to work from home or remotely. Going by the numbers, since 2005, the percentage of remote workers has grown by 140% which is nearly 10x faster than the self-employed workforce.

While remote workers enjoy many benefits, they have to deal with some challenges as well — different time zones, communication problems, unreliable and insecure ways to transfer information, and poor collaboration.
