In my experience, it takes dedication, consistency, and hard work to build a reputable Insta account. That said, I’m not a total glutton for punishment. I’m all for Instagram hacks that make the process of account building easier.

As a social media manager operating accounts in multiple time zones, a simple hack like scheduling Instagram posts in advance was a lifesaver for me. Then, getting Instagram and Pinterest to work together like a well-oiled machine helped me grow my personal blog’s traffic.

Whether you’re posting for business or pleasure, there are countless lesser-known features, settings, hacks, and search options to help take your Instagram game to the next level. And I've compiled them all here. Let’s go!

41 Hidden Instagram Hacks, Tips, and Features

Instagram Account Features

1. Add and manage multiple accounts from the same device.

As a freelance social media manager working on multiple client accounts, I found this hack an absolute blessing.

Managing multiple accounts from the same device made me way more effective and efficient at my job.

For example, if a scheduled post hit a technical glitch and didn't go live, I could toggle between accounts and manually post the content without an arduous log-on process.

I could also complete engagement tasks (i.e., commenting on X amount of relevant posts) for multiple client accounts in one session.

I don‘t know about you, but I find it much easier to do the same task repeatedly if I’m already in the ‘zone.’

But even for personal use, it‘s a game changer.

Separate account for your dog? Don’t be embarrassed; stand by your puppy profile. Whether it's a pet or a business account, you can add and manage this one alongside your personal account.

Here's how:

  1. From your profile, tap the gear icon. To find this icon on an Android device, you'll first need to tap the three horizontal lines to the top right of your screen.
  2. Scroll to the very bottom and tap “Add Account.”
  3. Add your other account by username and password, and you're all set.

To toggle between both profiles, hold down your profile picture in the navigation bar to view all connected accounts.

2. See all the posts you've liked.

Ever wanted to see the post you’ve liked all in one place? All you have to do is go to your profile, click the three lines on the top right (on Android and iOS), tap “Your Activity,” tap “Interactions,” and then click “Likes.”

Instagram hacks; how to see posts you’ve liked on Instagram

With this, you can see 300 of the last posts you’ve liked.

To un-like any posts you‘ve Liked, simply go to the post and deselect the "heart" icon below it.

Don’t worry — the user won‘t be notified that you’ve un-liked the post.

3. Hide, delete, or disable comments and likes on your posts.

X may carry a more “anything goes” culture of commentary, but your Instagram profile is your domain — and it's much easier to control who says what on your content. This is especially important if you manage a business account.

To Filter Comments by Keyword:
  • Navigate to Settings and tap “Privacy,” then “Hidden Words.”
  • You can toggle “Hide comments” to filter general offensive words or click “Manage custom words and phrases for messages, comments, and posts” to add custom filters.
To Delete Comments:
  • Tap the speech bubble icon below the comment you'd like to delete, and swipe lightly to the left over this text.
  • Select the garbage can icon that appears to delete this post. You can also do this to your own comments.
To Disable Comments Entirely:

To clarify, you can't turn off comments across your entire profile; you can only disable them for individual posts.

  • To do so, start posting an image on which you'd like nobody to comment.
  • When you reach the page to add a caption, tags, and location, tap “Advanced Settings” at the very bottom.
  • This will open a screen where you can easily switch on an option labeled “Turn Off Commenting.”

4. Clear your Instagram search history.

To clear your Instagram search history (on Android and iOS), go to your profile, tap Settings, then “Your activity.” Tap “Recent searches” and click “Clear all.”

5. Add another Instagram account to your bio.

Perhaps your company has more than one Instagram account for different aspects of your brand.

For instance, HubSpot has a verified HubSpot account, a HubSpot Life account, a HubSpot Academy account, and a HubSpot Partners account.

To draw awareness back to its main company page HubSpot links to the @HubSpot account in its other account bios, like in @HubSpotLife's account:

Instagram hacks; hubspot life instagram

Fortunately, you have the option to include another Instagram account in your Instagram bio. To do so, simply type the “@” sign into your bio and then select the account you'd like to tag. Then, click “Done.”

6. Communicate with your audience using Instagram Broadcast channels.

According to our Instagram Engagement Report, content showcasing a brand’s products/services (demos, teasers, etc.) is the best-performing type of content. Followed closely is funny content and relatable or authentic content.

Now, if only there was a fun way to share this type of content … Enter Broadcast Channels, a messaging tool for creators to engage directly with a large group of followers.

Creators can share updates and behind-the-scenes content as text, video, voice notes, and images. Followers can't send messages but can enjoy the content, react to content, and vote in polls.

7. Add special fonts to your bio.

Here's an Instagram bio hack that can truly make your profile stand out. You can already add emojis to the bio beneath your profile photo, but your keyboard limits your creativity right there.

Using a couple of basic third-party websites, you can copy over some more special fonts not often found in the Instagram community. Here's how.

To Add a Special Font to Your Bio via Mobile:
  • Add a new font to your Instagram bio via your mobile device using a website like LingoJam.
  • Open the site on your phone, type your desired bio text in the left-hand text box, and you'll see the same bio text in different typefaces appear on the right.

Instagram hacks; how to add special fonts to your bio

  • Carry your chosen font over to your Instagram bio by tapping it and selecting “Copy.”
  • Then, open your Instagram app, navigate to your profile, select “Edit Profile,” tap the “Bio” section, and paste your chosen font into the empty field.
To Add a Special Font to Your Bio on Desktop:

If you're editing your Instagram profile on your laptop or desktop, Font Space has a library of fonts you can download and copy into your bio in seconds.

  • To do so, Find a font you like and select “Download” beneath the font's sample image, as shown below.

Instagram hacks; how to add special fonts to your bio

  • Downloading this font will open a folder on your desktop where you can pull a “.ttf” file that carries the various versions of this font. The file will look something like the screenshot below.

Instagram hacks; how to add special fonts to your bio

  • Once you have this font copied to your computer's clipboard, open your internet browser and log onto Instagram.com.
  • Select “Edit Profile” and paste your downloaded font into your bio field.
  • You can then edit the sample text that came with your font to write your new bio as you see fit.

8. Add special characters to your bio.

Not only can you customize your bio with a special font, but you can also add atypical characters that distinguish you or your brand.

These include§,†, or even™ — symbols you wouldn‘t find on your smartphone’s normal keyboard — which is helpful if your Instagram name features a trademarked product name.

To Add Special Characters From Mobile
  • Using your mobile device, install a free mobile app like Character Pad, which catalogs nearly every character and symbol you might need but won't find in the 26-letter English alphabet.
  • Open the app and find the character you want to add to your Instagram bio.
  • In Character Pad, you'll simply double-tap the picture of your chosen symbol to paste it into a text box, as shown below.
  • Then, copy this character to your phone's clipboard. (For our purposes, I double-tapped the half-moon icon.)

Instagram hacks; how to add special characters to your bio

  • Once you have your symbol copied to your clipboard, open Instagram, navigate to your bio, and tap “Edit Profile.”

  • Hold down your finger on the field of your bio you want to insert your special character until “Paste” appears as an option, as shown below.
  • Tap “Paste” and then “Done.” Then, you'll be all set.

To Add Special Characters From a PC

You can also insert special characters and symbols through Instagram‘s web client on a desktop or laptop computer. The easiest way is to use Microsoft Word’s “Symbol” insertion icon, as shown below.

Instagram hacks; how to add special fonts to your bio

  • Select your desired symbol or character and copy it to your computer's clipboard.
  • Then, navigate to Instagram.com and follow the steps above to paste your character into a particular part of your bio.

Note: You might be tempted to simply Google search for the special character you want. At times, it might work just as well as the steps above. But keep in mind not all special characters you copy from the internet are “clean” when you paste them into Instagram — some of them might become corrupted or not show up correctly.

9. Reorder filters to set your favorite filters at the front.

If you use Instagram a lot, chances are you have a few favorite go-to filters and others you never touch. To make editing photos easier, you can reorder the filters in your editing window.

  • To reorder filters, add a new post and begin editing it.
  • When you get to the filters page, hold down on a filter you'd like to move and then drag it to your preferred location.

10. Use Instagram as a photo editor (without having to post anything).

This is lowkey one of my favorite Insta hacks. The reason is that I don't always want to share content on Instagram. Still, I might want to share visual content on a different social platform like LinkedIn.

In my humble opinion, no other social platform matches the photo editing capabilities of Instagram, and I‘m a real sucker for the filters. So, I’ll use this hack to add a filter and/or crop an image before sharing it to LinkedIn.

I haven't done a formal A/B test, but my photos on LinkedIn with an Instagram filter tend to perform better than those without. Of course, that could be down to the specific type of content I share and my audience. Your results may differ.

In your case, you might love Instagram‘s filters and editing capabilities but aren’t quite ready to post the photo to your account — right now or ever.

To use Instagram as a photo editor without posting anything, all you need to do is publish a picture while your phone is on airplane mode.

  • First, be sure you have “Save Original Photo” turned on in your Instagram settings.

Instagram hacks; how to save original photo

  • Next, follow the normal steps to post a photo to Instagram: Upload the photo, edit it, and press “Share.”
  • An error message will appear saying the upload failed, but you‘ll be able to find the edited image in your phone’s photo gallery.

11. Insert line breaks into your bio and captions.

When you write a caption on Instagram, you‘ll see the keyboard doesn’t give you the option to press “Enter” or “Return.” The same is true for your bio. So how do all those people put line breaks in there?

Instagram hacks; how to add return line on Instagram caption

It turns out that all you have to do is press the “123” key in the bottom left corner of the keyboard, and the “Return” key will appear on the bottom right.

Instagram hacks; how to add return line on Instagram caption

I know this tip sounds simple, but a lot of people miss it — myself included, until a colleague clued me in. I‘ve seen some elaborate solutions out there for hacking through this problem, like writing the caption copy in another app and then copying and pasting it into Instagram. Thankfully, it’s much simpler than that.

Instagram Optimization Features

12. Pin important content to the top of your Instagram Grid.

If you have an Instagram post that you want to call attention to, you can pin it to the top of your profile grid.

  • To do this, pick the Reel or image post you want to pin.
  • In the top right corner of the post, tap the three dots and click “Pin to your profile.”
  • The post will now show up at the top of your grid.

This is a valuable tool to share ongoing partnerships with your followers, draw attention to popular content, and make sure new followers or browsers can immediately see the most important content you want to share with them.

13. Optimize your Instagram bio to appear in the Explore tab.

Your friends, family, and coworkers might be your first group of Instagram followers, but growing your audience takes more than the people who already know you. One key way to do this is to get your profile to appear on Instagram's Explore page.

Instagram explore page

Image Source

The Explore page, accessible using the magnifying glass icon shown above, is a browsing page that sorts the entire Instagram community by topic and keyword. These include “Fitness,” “Style,” “Science,” and more.

Hashtagging your posts with these words can expose your content to the people browsing these topics, but you can also use them in your Instagram name and bio to promote your profile.

If Jane Doe is a marketing consultant, for example, she might want to make her Instagram name “Jane Doe Marketing” rather than simply “Jane Doe.” Then, in her bio, she can include all of her specialties, such as “SEO,” “blogging,” “email marketing,” etc.

Pro tip: When you’re looking for suitable hashtags for your content or bio, aside from relevance, you want to factor in competition.

To do this, I don’t recommend using the first hashtags that Instagram auto-suggests when you start typing. They’re usually the most competitive (i.e., densely populated with existing content), making it harder for you to stand out.

The good news? All it takes is a little research.

In my case below, I’m looking for hashtags for my abstract artwork. I’m using ‘#abstract’ as a jumping-off point. But at over 13 million existing posts, that’s waaay too competitive, in my opinion.

Experimenting with hashtag Instagram hacks

Scrolling down, I can see ‘#abstractionism’ and ‘#abstract_post’ at 42, 442, and 14,380, respectively. I like the look of those odds compared to hashtags with millions of existing profiles and content. So, those two would be on my list out of that small selection.

14. Drive traffic to an external website.

Nearly 40% of marketers cite driving traffic to a brand's external site as the biggest challenge with Instagram.

And it‘s no wonder, given that clickable URLs aren’t allowed anywhere except the single “website” box in your bio.

If you put a URL in a photo caption, it'll appear as plain text, meaning users would have to painstakingly copy the URL, open a web browser, and paste or type it there.

One sneaky way to get people to visit your Instagram profile, which is where that one clickable URL is allowed, is to use your photo captions to encourage people to visit your profile for a link.

Then, update that URL frequently to point to your latest blog content, YouTube video, product, or offer.

Check out the example below from the food magazine Bon Appétit, which includes a link in its bio that draws people to external Bon Appétit content.

If you have a verified Instagram account, you can also add links to your Story. Read more about this feature here.

15. Sell products from Instagram using Shoppable Posts.

You might already know you can tag people in your Instagram posts as (or after) you post new content. Now, you can tag products — and direct your viewers to a product page to buy what they saw.

Welcome news for the 49% of marketers who use revenue/sales of products within the Instagram app to determine ROI.

To Add an Instagram Business Account

You'll need an Instagram Business account to publish shoppable posts. You can get one by selecting “Edit Profile” on your Instagram profile and tapping “Try Instagram Business Tools,” as shown below.

To Tag a Post With Products

Once you‘ve launched an Instagram Business account, you’ll need to enable product tags to use them on a post that depicts a product.

  • Navigate to your settings using the gear icon from your profile page, and select “Products.”
  • Tap “Continue” and follow the prompts to connect a "product catalog" to your business profile.

With product tags enabled on your Instagram Business account, you can now upload new posts and tag your photo with products you find from your product catalog. Here's what a shoppable post can look like:

16. Create an auto-complete quick reply for standard responses.

Responding to user comments and questions is incredibly time-consuming, but fortunately, there's a hack to streamline the process and make it more efficient. (Note: This only works on Instagram Business accounts.)

You can simply create a one-to-two word phrase that can act as your shortcut to a longer standard response you might send often.

  • To do this, click “Business” in your Settings, and then “Quick Replies.”
  • Or, click the three-dot chat bubble icon on the bottom of the screen, and then click “New Quick Reply.”
  • Add a shortcut you can enter for the response.
  • For instance, you might type “returnpolicy” as the shortcut for a longer response. (i.e., “Hey there. We're sorry you don't love your purchase. Fortunately, we permit 30-day returns, no questions asked. Please send us your order confirmation number to get the process started.”)
  • Once you‘ve added a shortcut, you can either type the shortcut "returnpolicy" into the comment box when you want it to auto-generate, or you can tap the three-dot chat Quick Replies bubble icon at the bottom of your screen to choose from a response you’ve created. (Read more about Quick Replies here.)

17. Pin your Instagram post to Pinterest.

I'm an SEO girl at heart. But before I knew what SEO was, I began experimenting with Pinterest to grow my blog traffic.

To get the most from Pinterest, you need to post consistently, and as most content creators know, sometimes you hit a brick wall on the inspiration front.

When I have a creative block with Pinterest content, I like to repurpose old Instagram posts. (And it‘s easier than you think!) I’ve used the following technique to build group boards and direct traffic to my blog.

But here's the thing: You might not know this hack exists. Why? Well, Instagram doesn't have a natural integration with many social networks (except Facebook — considering they are both owned by Meta) for publishing Instagram posts to other social accounts.

However, with respect to Pinterest, image-loving platforms stick together. Here's a backdoor way to Pin your latest Instagram Story to Pinterest:

  • On the Instagram mobile app, tap a post to view it in full, then tap the three dots to the top-right of the image.
  • Select “Copy Share URL” to attach the picture's link to your clipboard.

Instagram hacks; how to pin a post on Pinterest

  • Open the Pinterest mobile app — or download it; you'll need it for this step — and navigate to your profile page.
  • If you have the latest version of Pinterest downloaded, it might ask you as soon as you open the app if you'd like to produce the image from your clipboard.
  • If not, select the “+” icon to the top right to add a new pin, and you'll see a menu of options where you can add your “Copied Link” to a new Pin or board on your profile.

Instagram Reels Features

18. Upload and browse video content on Instagram Reels.

Instagram Reels is one of the most popular features of Instagram to date.

In fact, 25% of marketers share this post format at least once a day, according to HubSpot’s most recent Instagram Engagement Report data.

This makes it the most shared content type on Instagram for marketers, with image posts and stories coming in joint second at 23%.

You can find Instagram Reels by opening the app and tapping the TV icon in the bottom navigation bar.

You'll land on a gallery of Reels to watch, including those from people you follow, trending videos, and the most popular creators on the app.

As you view more videos, the algorithm will adapt to your interests and show you Reels relevant to your likes. And naturally, the same goes for your target audience.

The Reels you create are visible on your Profile under the Reels icon. When you want to upload a new Reel, follow the steps to upload an image, but click Reels instead.

19. Easily create Reels using the template feature.

Instagram’s native Reels template helps anyone quickly and easily make a Reel. To create a Reel using a template, you can either:

  • Find a Reel you like that someone has created, tap on the three dots on the bottom right corner of the real, tap “Use as template,” and follow the steps. (Note: the only Reels you can use as a template have the ‘Use as a template’ button.)

Or,

  • Click on the Reels tab, swipe left to access the “Templates” option, and select the template you want to use. Then, follow the steps on screen.

Instagram hacks; how to create a Reel from a template

20. Automatically add captions to your Reels and Stories.

The auto-caption feature automatically converts speech into captions for your Reels and Stories.

This feature is incredibly important for increasing accessibility for your content and also for allowing people to consume your content without sound.

21. Remix Reels to engage with other users.

Remixing a Reel means creating one that includes content from someone else’s Reel. It’s a great way to engage with other users and create side-by-side interaction.

  • To Remix a real (on Android and iOS), tap the three dots on the Reel you want to remix.
  • Tap “Remix” and choose whether to play your video beside the original video or after it ends.
  • Next, record your Reel and share it to your profile.

If you remix a Reel using side-by-side video, you can mix the audio and add voiceovers, text, and stickers to your Reel and the original Reel.

If you remix a Reel and add your video after the original, you can’t change the audio from the original post, but you can adjust the volume level of the original Reel and add a voiceover.

22. Reply to a comment on your Reel with a Reel.

Instagram now allows people to create Reels to reply to comments on Reels. It’s an engaging way to interact with followers and build connections.

  • To do this (on Android and iOS), tap “Reply” underneath a comment and click the camera icon.
  • Record your Reel or upload a pre-recorded video from your camera roll.
  • Click on the comment sticker to update the background color or change its position in the frame.
  • Edit your Reel, then click “Share.”

Instagram Stories Features

23. Use Notes to share status updates.

Notes are 60-character max posts next to profile images in the messages inbox.

Notes will appear in your followers' inboxes, and you can choose to share them with all of your followers or your selected Close Friends list. They last 24 hours, and Notes replies appear as DMs.

The new feature is a great way to share your timely thoughts, engage with people, and see what others are saying.

24. Create a collection of saved posts.

In addition to being able to view all of the posts you've liked, Instagram also has an option to save or bookmark certain posts in collections that you create.

  • Start by going to your profile, and tapping the “Settings” icon at the top-right of your screen, and then select “Saved”:

  • Next, press the “+” button and name your new Collection.

  • Then, go back to your saved photos by following the previous steps.
  • You‘ll see the photos you’ve saved — to add them to your Collection, select the Collection you want to add to, and tap “Add to Collection.” From there, you can add any of your saved photos.

25. Create Stories Highlights to show Stories for longer than a day.

Like in Snapchat, posts to your Story only stick around for your followers to see for 24 hours. But sometimes, you have a Story that deserves more daylight to be told.

That's where Stories Highlights comes in, a feature by Instagram that allows you to save stories together in the same space on your profile page.

If you ever wondered what that “New” button with the “+” icon was below your profile image, this explains it.

To make a Stories Highlight, tap this New option and select any number of past stories in your album:

Then, give it a cover photo and a name to display as its own Instagram Story on your profile page. You can remove Stories Highlights at any time by tapping and holding down this Story.

26. Reorder Instagram Stories Highlights.

The Highlights on your Instagram feed act as your brand‘s portfolio — you can use Highlights to demonstrate your company’s values, showcase new products or services, or categorize various topics you post about frequently.

For instance, The North Face uses its Highlights section to highlight various initiatives that are important to the brand, including a section labeled “Summit Series,” “Explore Fund,” “XPLR Pass,” “Pride,” and “Athletes.”

Since a user can only see the first five Highlights when they come across your profile, you‘ll want to ensure your first Highlights are the ones you’re most proud of. To do this, simply follow this trick:

  • Hold down the Highlight you'd like moved to the front of this list and click “Edit Highlight” when the slide-up appears.

Instagram hacks; how to edit Highlight

  • Next, find an image or video you‘d like to add to the Highlight. (Don’t worry — you‘ll be able to delete this within 30 seconds, so you don’t need to choose one that will stay on the Highlight.)

Instagram hacks; how to edit Highlight

  • Click “Done” in the top right corner.
  • Now, your Highlight will be first in the list. To remove the image or video you just added, follow the above instructions and simply un-check the image you added. Your Highlight will remain at the beginning of the Highlight reel.

27. Change your Instagram Highlights Icon without publishing it to your feed.

The image you choose for each Highlight should accurately depict what type of content users can expect to see if they tap the Highlight, so you'll want to choose a compelling, engaging image.

However, if you have a design, logo, or image you‘d like to use that isn’t in your Instagram feed, it's still possible to make it the Highlight Icon.

  • To do this, click “Edit Highlight” (same as the step above):

  • Next, click “Edit Cover,” and scroll through your camera roll to find an image you like.

28. Schedule posts in advance.

Given that Instagram is a mobile app, you're probably in a routine of taking photos and posting them to your Instagram Story on the fly. But, you can also pre-post them from your computer for a set day and time in the future.

This feature is available with a social media scheduling tool, as well as HubSpot, if you have an Instagram business account.

If you have this business profile, switch to it via the Instagram mobile app and follow the prompts to connect it to Facebook.

Depending on the social scheduling tool you use, you might not include this step.

Once you‘ve toggled to the right account, however, you’ll launch your scheduling tool, navigate to your current connected profiles, and see Instagram as an available integration.

A word of warning when it comes to scheduling posts on Instagram — and I tell you this from experience managing Insta accounts for international clients… make sure you set your scheduling tool to your client’s time zone rather than yours.

I once created and scheduled some beautiful content, and it was met with crickets. Why? It went out at an appropriate time on my end, but it was an unsociable time for the client and their audience. Doh!

Pro tip: Looking for the best days and times to schedule content on Instagram for peak engagement and performance? According to 50% of global marketers surveyed by HubSpot, Friday is the best day to post. Saturday comes in second at 44%, followed closely by Sunday.

When it comes to times, scheduling content at 6 PM-8:59 PM on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday yields the best results for marketers.

29. Use ‘Type Mode’ to enhance your Instagram Stories.

Since its launch, Stories have become quite creative, and it takes more than a pretty filter to stand out to your audience.

Enter “Type Mode,” an option similar to Snapchat that gives you the power to caption Stories that need extra context to resonate with someone. Here's how to use it:

  • Open Instagram Stories by swiping right from your Instagram feed. This will launch your smartphone camera.
  • Then, take a photo or video and press the “Aa” icon to the top-right of your screen, as shown below:

Instagram hacks; how to add text to Stories

  • The “Aa” icon will open Type Mode, where you have eight fonts to choose from. Here's what a sample Story looks like with Modern font:

30. Post content from other users to your Instagram Story.

Although Instagram Stories are a great way to give your content exposure on your followers‘ homepages, you might not always have something Story-worthy.

In those times, you can share an inspiring post from someone else through your Instagram Stories. Here’s how:

  • Find a post you want to share in your Instagram Stories and tap the paper airplane icon, as shown below.

Instagram hacks; how to post others’ content to Stories

  • This icon will open a screen allowing you to send this post to specific followers or add it to your Story.
  • Tap the latter option, as shown below.

Tapping this option will automatically turn the post into an Instagram Story, which you can edit and design to your liking the same way you would any other Instagram Story.

31. Share Candid Stories with your followers.

Instagram Candid Stories lets you share in-the-moment updates with friends to let them know what you’re up to. A unique feature is that each Story is only visible to others who have posted their own Candid Stories.

To share a Candid Story, use the stories camera and select Candid Story, or wait for the daily Candid Story notification.

32. Mute Instagram notifications using Quiet Mode.

Quiet Mode turns off all app notifications and adds a badge to your profile, so people know you’re taking a break. When you turn Quiet Mode off, you’ll get a roundup of notifications of things you’ve missed.

  • To use Quiet Mode on Instagram, Navigate to your profile page. Click “Settings,“ then ”Notifications,“ and then ”Quiet mode."
  • Toggle the “Quiet mode” button to enable it and turn it off when you’re ready to receive notifications again.

You can also set a designated time to trigger Quiet Mode every day, so you don’t have to remember to turn it off and on.

Quiet Mode is currently available in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

33. Create a Favorites list to see your favorite accounts first.

If you have favorite accounts on Instagram or friends whose content you want to see more often, you can select up to 50 accounts to add to your Favorites list.

You’ll see their posts higher up and more often in your feed, and you can even swipe to a separate favorites-only feed to see what people are up to.

Every Favorites feed is free of ads and suggested posts, and nobody else knows who you’ve added to the list.

34. Get notifications when your favorite people post.

Never want to miss an Instagram post from your favorite influencers again? You can choose to get a notification every time a specific user posts a new photo. All you have to do is turn on notifications for each user individually.

To turn on these notifications, visit a user's profile, click the bell icon in the upper right corner, and choose what type of post you want a notification for: Posts, Stories, Reels, Videos, or Live Videos.

how to get notifications when user posts on Instagram

Image Source

Want to turn post notifications off? Just follow the same steps. It‘s important to note that you must enable notifications from the Instagram app in your phone’s settings — here's how.

  • To allow notifications on iPhone/iPad: Go to “Settings,” then “Notifications.” Choose “Instagram” and then turn on the setting to “Allow Notifications.”
  • To allow notifications on Android: Go to “Settings,” then choose “Apps,” then “Instagram.” Select the option to show notifications.

35. Hide photos you've been tagged in.

When someone tags you in a photo or video on Instagram, it's automatically added to your profile under “Photos of You,” unless you opt to add tagged photos manually (see the next tip).

  • To see the posts you've been tagged in, go to your own profile and click the person icon below your bio.
  • Next, click on an individual post (in your tagged photos) and click the three dots in the top right.
  • Tap “Post options,” then tap “Remove me from post” or “Hide from my profile.” The first removes your tag, and the second removes it from your tagged photos.

36. Adjust your settings to approve tagged photos before they show up in your profile.

As I mentioned in the previous step, when someone tags a photo or video of you on Instagram, it‘s automatically added to your profile.

But you can change your Instagram settings to enable manually selecting which photos you’re tagged in that show up on your profile.

To manually approve tagged posts, navigate to “Settings,” tap “Privacy,” “Posts,” then “Manually approve tags,” and toggle the on button.

Now, you‘ll be notified when you’ve been tagged in a post, and you can approve it to show up on your profile.

37. Hide ads you don't find relevant.

Instagram tries to show you ads that are interesting and relevant to you. You might see ads based on people you follow and things you Like on Instagram, or the third-party websites and apps you visit.

If you see sponsored posts you don‘t find relevant, though, you can let Instagram know and slowly teach its algorithm what you like and don’t like to see.

To hide ads on Instagram, tap on the three dots to the right of a post labeled “Sponsored,” and choose “Hide ad.”

how to hide ads on Instagram

From there, it‘ll ask you to share why you don’t want to see the ad anymore.

You can also opt out of seeing ads based on sites and apps off of Instagram and Facebook from your device‘s settings.

Note that even if you choose to opt out of seeing these types of ads, you’ll still see ads based on your Instagram and Facebook activity.

  • To limit ad tracking on an iPhone/iPad: Go to “Settings” and choose “Privacy & Security,” then “Apple Advertising.” From there, choose the option to turn off personalized ads.
  • To turn off interest-based ads on Android: Go to “Google Settings,” then “Ads.” From there, choose the option to “Turn off interest-based ads.”

38. Send photos privately to your friends.

Posting photos with all of your followers or with the public isn't the only way to share content on Instagram. You can also share them with individual or multiple users, kind of like a Facebook message or group text message.

You can either send a new photo to friends, or send a photo that you or someone else has already posted.

  • To send a new photo privately, upload a photo and begin editing it, as you would when editing a new post.
  • When you get to the “Share” page, tap the top where it automatically says “New Post,” but when prompted, select “Direct Message.”
  • From there, you can pick and choose whom you'd like to send the photo to.

You can access your direct messages at any time by clicking the mailbox icon at the top right of your homepage.

  • To send an existing photo privately, start by opening the post you want to share — it can be your own or someone else's, as long as the latter has a public account.
  • Next, click the paper-airplane-like icon below the post, then select who you want to receive it when the “Send to” box appears.

User Search Features

39. Search Instagram users without an account.

As much as Instagram would like to see you ultimately create an account for yourself or your business, you can peruse the beautiful brands, people, and dogs that are waiting for you without an account to see if it's worth signing up.

There are two ways to search for people on Instagram without logging in:

Entering a Username at the End of the Instagram URL

The first way to search users without an account is by using an Instagram username you already know, and adding it to the end of “www.instagram.com/.”

For example, if you were to start with our Instagram username — which is simply “HubSpot” — you can enter the following into your browser's address bar: www.instagram.com/hubspot.

This will bring you to our Instagram profile as well as the elusive search bar at the top of the page:

HubSpot Instagram page

Once you've reached this page, you can use the search bar to the left of the “Sign Up” button to browse users who are already active on the platform.

Googling Them in an Instagram Site Search

A slightly “hackier” way of looking up users without an Instagram account of your own is to simply search their name in a Google site search.

This means telling Google to only look up search terms on a website of your choice (in this case, Instagram).

To site search a user, open a Google search and type the following: "site:instagram.com [name of user]."

By keeping all the text prior to the brackets in your search bar, you can shuffle through the names of people and businesses, and Google will produce results that are live only on Instagram. Here's what a site search looks like for HubSpot.

As you can see, Google produces our main profile, our culture-focused HubSpot Life profile, Instagram posts that include the #hubspot hashtag, and our HubSpot Academy Page.

site search for Hubspot Instagram example

40. Look through pictures without accidentally liking them.

It‘s pretty easy to learn how to like something on Instagram — so easy, in fact, that people do it accidentally: It’s just a quick double tap of the photo once you've entered its full view.

The thing is, it's so easy to do quickly by mistake.

So, here‘s a quick Instagram cheat for you: To look through someone’s photos without “double-tap paranoia,” scroll through Instagram feeds with your phone set to airplane mode. Without internet access, you won't be able to Like a photo, even if you accidentally double-tap it.

The pictures won‘t load in the first place if you start on airplane mode, though. You’ll have to go to the feed first to load the posts, then turn on airplane mode, then start scrolling.

When you reach the end of the first rows of posts and want to load more, simply turn airplane mode off, let more load, and then turn it on again. Cumbersome? Maybe a little, but it could be worth the paranoia mitigation.

  • To turn on airplane mode on an iPhone/iPad: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and click the airplane icon. Or, go to “Settings” and then “Wi-Fi,” and switch “Airplane Mode” on.
  • To turn on airplane mode on an Android device: Swipe down from the top of the screen. Then, swipe from right to left until you see “Settings,” and then touch it. Touch “Airplane Mode” to turn it on.

41. Browse posts from certain locations.

One fun thing you can do on Instagram is browse photos and videos from a specific location or taken near your current location.

I like to do that when I'm planning a trip somewhere or want to check out a new restaurant and scroll through the pictures taken there.

Here's how to do both of these things.

To Browse Posts From a Specific Location:

You can either search for a specific place, or you can click into a geotag on an existing photo.

To search for a specific place:

  • Tap the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of your home screen, which will bring you to the general search page.
  • Type in a place you’d like to search for, and you’ll see content most relevant to the place you searched, including the most popular Reels, accounts, audios, tagged photos, and locations.

How to Get Verified on Instagram

A verified badge (the blue check beside a celebrity or brand account name) tells users that you‘re, in Instagram’s words, “the authentic presence of a notable public figure, celebrity, global brand or entity it represents.”

For instance, there are plenty of “Reese Witherspoon” fan pages on Instagram, but there's only one real Reese Witherspoon account, as verified by the blue badge:

how to get verified on Instagram

To request a verified badge, you must be a public figure, celebrity, or brand and meet certain requirements. If you‘ve determined you fit Instagram’s criteria for verification, follow these steps to request a badge:

    1. Go to your profile (the person icon in the bottom left corner).
    2. Tap the three lines in the top right corner.
    3. Click “Settings,” “Account,” “Request Verification.”
    4. Fill out the form, including username, Full Name, Document type (like government issued photo ID), Category, Country/Region, and Audience.
    5. When you've filled out all form fields, click “Send.”

It‘s important to note, you won’t necessarily receive a verified badge if you request one. Learn more about what happens after you request a verified badge.

Instagram Features & Hacks

I might be biased, but Instagram is one of the most fun (and visually appealing) social apps around. Aside from personal use, you can use Instagram to enhance your brand’s presence.

It’s no surprise, then, that 31% of marketers surveyed for HubSpot’s 2024 Instagram Engagement Report post on their brand’s account multiple times a week.

On the other end of the spectrum, 23% of marketers post multiple times a day.

At first, I found that latter statistic surprising, but with features like Reels and Stories, it makes more sense.

Overall, my favorite Instagram marketing hacks are post-scheduling and using the platform with Pinterest. From a personal and business perspective, I love that you can benefit from Instagram’s filters without posting on your account.

That said, all of the tricks in this post can help you use Instagram to an even fuller extent. I sincerely hope you’ve found all of them helpful!

Creating Custom Lottie Animations With SVGator

Featured Imgs 23

This article is a sponsored by SVGator

SVGator has gone through a series of updates since our last article, which was published in 2021, when it was already considered to be the most advanced web-based tool for vector animation. The first step toward more versatile software came with the mobile export feature that made it possible to implement the animations in iOS and Android applications.

The animation tool continued its upgrade with a series of new export options: video formats including MP4, AVI, MKV, MOV, and WebM, as well as image formats such as GIF, Animated PNG, WebP, and image sequence. By covering a larger area of users’ needs, the app now enables anyone to create animated stickers, social media, and newsletter animations, video assets, and many more types of visual content on demand.

The goal of becoming a “one tool for all” still lacked the last piece of the puzzle, namely full support for Lottie files. Lottie, just like SVG, is a vector-based format, but it has even better comprehensive multi-platform support, a fact that makes it super popular among developers and design professionals. It is built for use across various platforms, enabling smooth integration into both web and mobile applications. Its file size is minimal, it is infinitely scalable, and developers find it straightforward to implement once they get familiar with the format. Lottie can incorporate raster graphics and also supports interactivity.

SVGator’s latest version has everything you need for your various applications without the need for any third-party apps or plug-ins.

Note: You can test all of SVGator’s functionalities free of charge before committing to the Pro plan. However, you can export up to three watermarked files, with videos and GIFs limited to basic quality.

In this article, we will follow a creation process made of these steps:

  • Importing an existent Lottie JSON and making some minor adjustments;
  • Importing new animated assets created with SVGator (using the library);
  • Creating and animating new elements from scratch;
  • Exporting the Lottie animation.
Getting Started With SVGator

The sign-up process is simple, fast, and straightforward, and no credit card is required. Sign up either with Google or Facebook or, alternatively, by providing your name, email address, and password. Start a project either with a Lottie animation or a static SVG. If you don’t have an existing file, you can design and animate everything starting from a blank canvas.

Now that you’ve created your account, let’s dive right into the fun part. Here’s a preview of how your animation is going to look by the time you’re done following this guide. Neat, right?

(Large preview) Create A New Project

After logging in and clicking on the New Project option, you will be taken to the New Project Panel, where you can choose between starting from a blank project or uploading a file. Let’s start this project with an existing Lottie JSON.

  1. Click on the Upload file button and navigate to the directory where you have saved your Lottie file.

  2. Select the “Fast response.json” file and click Open.

    Hit play in the editor, and the animation should look like this:

    (Large preview)

Note: Make sure to hit Save after each step to make sure you don’t lose any of your progress while working on this project alongside our guide.

Import An Animated Asset

In this step, you will learn how to use the Library to import new assets to your project. You can easily choose from a variety of ready-made SVGs stored in different categories, load new files from your computer (Lottie, static SVG, and images), or save animations from other SVGator projects and reuse them.

In this case, let’s use an animated message bubble previously created and saved to the Uploads section of the Library.

Learn how to create and save animated assets with this short video tutorial.

  1. Navigate to the left sidebar of the app and switch to the Library tab, then click the “+” icon to upload the message bubble asset that you downloaded earlier.
  2. After it is loaded in the uploads section, simply click on it to add it to your project.

    All the animated properties of the asset are now present in the timeline, and you can edit them if you want.

    Note: Make sure the playhead is at the second “0” before adding the animated asset. When adding an animated asset, it will always start animating from the point where the playhead is placed.
  3. Freely adjust its position and size as you wish.
  4. With the playhead at the second 0, click on the Animate button, then choose Position.

At this point, you should have the first Position keyframe automatically added at the second 0, and you are ready to start animating.

Animate The Message Bubble
  1. Start by dragging the playhead on the timeline at 0.2 seconds:

  2. Then, drag the message bubble up a few pixels. The second keyframe will appear in the timeline, marking the element’s new position, thus creating the 2 milliseconds animation.

    Note: You can hit Play at any moment to check how everything looks!

    Next, you can use the Scale animator to make the bubble disappear after the dots representing the typing are done animating by scaling it down to 0 for both the X and Y axes:

  3. With the message bubble still selected, drag the playhead at 2.2 seconds, click on Animate, and select Scale (or just press Shift + S on the keyboard) to set the first Scale keyframe, then drag the playhead at 2.5 seconds.
  4. Set the scale properties to 0 for both the X and Y axes (in the right side panel). The bubble won’t be visible anymore at this point.

    Note: To maintain the ratio while changing the scale values, make sure you have the Maintain proportions on (the link icon next to the scale inputs).

    To add an extra touch of interest to this scaling motion, add an easing function preset:

  5. First, jump back to the first Scale keyframe (you can also double-click the keyframe to jump the playhead right at it).
  6. Open the Easing Panel next to the time indicator and scroll down through the presets list, then select Ease in Back. Due to its bezier going out of the graph, this easing function will create a bounce-back effect for the scale animation.

    Note: You can adjust the bezier of a selected easing preset and create a new custom function, which will appear at the top of the list.

    Keep in mind that you need at least one keyframe selected if you intend to apply an easing. The easing function will apply from the selected keyframe toward the next keyframe at its right. Of course, you can apply a certain easing for multiple keyframes at once.

    To get a smoother transition when the message bubble disappears, add an Opacity animation of one millisecond at the end of the scaling:

  7. Choose Opacity from the animators’ list and set the first keyframe at 2.4 seconds, then drag the playhead at 2.5 seconds to match the ending keyframe from the scale animation above.
  8. From the Appearance panel, drag the Opacity slider all the way to the left, at 0%.
Create An Email Icon

For the concept behind this animation to be complete, let’s create (and later animate) a “new email” notification as a response to the character sending that message.

Once again, SVGator’s asset library comes in handy for this step:

  1. Go to the search bar from the Library and type in “mail,” then click on the mail asset from the results.
  2. Place it somewhere above the laptop. Edit the mail icon to better fit the style of the animation:

  3. Open the email group and select the rectangle from the back.
  4. Change its fill color to a dark purple.
  5. Round up the corners using the Radius slider.

  6. Make the element’s design minimal by deleting these two lines from the lower part of the envelope.

  7. Select the envelope seal flap, which is the Polyline element in the group, above the rectangle.
  8. Add a lighter purple for the fill, set the stroke to 2 px width, and also make it white.

    To make the animation even more interesting, create a notification alert in the top-right corner of the envelope:

  9. Use the Ellipse tool (O) from the toolbar on top and draw a circle in the top-right corner of the envelope.
  10. Choose a nice red color for the fill, and set the stroke to white with a 2 px width.

  11. Click on the “T” icon to select the Text tool.
  12. Click on the circle and type “1”.
  13. Set the color to white and click on the “B” icon to make it bold.

  14. Select both the red circle and the number, and group them: right-click, and hit Group.

    You can also hit Command or Ctrl + G on your keyboard. Double-click on the newly created group to rename it to “Notification.”

  15. Select both the notification group and email group below and create a new group, which you can name “new email.”
Animate The New Email Group

Let’s animate the new email popping out of the laptop right after the character has finished texting his message:

  1. With the “New email” group selected, click twice on the Move down icon from the header to place the group last.
    You can also press Command or Ctrl + arrow down on your keyboard.
  2. Drag the group behind the laptop (on the canvas) to hide it entirely, and also scale it down a little.
  3. With the playhead at 3 seconds, add the animators Scale and Position.
    You can also do that by pressing Shift + S and Shift + P on your keyboard.

  4. Drag the playhead at the second 3.3 on the timeline.
  5. Move the New Email group above the laptop and scale it up a bit.
  6. You can also bend the motion path line to create a curved trajectory for the position animation.

  7. Select the first keyframes at the second 3.
  8. Open the easing panel.
  9. And click on the Ease Out Cubic preset to add it to both keyframes.
Animate The Notification

Let’s animate the notification dot separately. We’ll make it pop in while the email group shows up.

  1. Select the Notification group.
  2. Create a scale-up animation for it with 0 for both the X and Y axes at 3.2 and 1 at 3.5 seconds.
  3. Select the first keyframe and, from the easing panel, choose Ease Out Back. This easing function will ensure the popping effect.
Add Expressiveness To The Character

Make the character smile while looking at the email that just popped out. For this, you need to animate the stroke offset of the mouth:

  1. Select the mouth path. You can use the Node tool to select it directly with one click.
  2. Drag the playhead at 3.5 seconds, which is the moment from where the smile will start.
  3. Select the last keyframe of the Stroke offset animator from the timeline and duplicate it at second 3.5, or you can also use Ctrl or Cmd + D for duplication.

  4. Drag the playhead at second 3.9.
  5. Go to the properties panel and set the Offset to 0. The stroke will now fill the path all the way, creating a stroke offset animation of 4 milliseconds.
Final Edits

You can still make all kinds of adjustments to your animation before exporting it. In this case, let’s change the color of the initial Lottie animation we used to start this project:

  1. Use the Node tool to select all the green paths that form the character’s arms and torso.
  2. Change the color as you desire.
Export Lottie

Once you’re done editing, you can export the animation by clicking on the top right Export button and selecting the Lottie format. Alternatively, you can press Command or Ctrl + E on your keyboard to jump directly to the export panel, from where you can still select the animation you want to export.

  1. Make sure the Lottie format is selected from the dropdown. In the export panel, you can set a name for the file you are about to export, choose the frame rate and animation speed, or set a background color.
  2. You can preview the Lottie animation with a Lottie player.
    Note: This step is recommended to make sure all animations are supported in the Lottie format by previewing it on a webpage using the Lottie player. The preview in the export panel isn’t an actual Lottie animation.
  3. Get back to the export panel and simply click Export to download the Lottie JSON.
Final Thoughts

Now that you’re done with your animation don’t forget that you have plenty of export options available besides Lottie. You can post the same project on social media in video format, export it as an SVG animation for the web, or turn it into a GIF sticker or any other type of visual you can think of. GIF animations can also be used in Figma presentations and prototypes as a high-fidelity preview of the production-ready Lottie file.

We hope you enjoyed this article and that it will inspire you to create amazing Lottie animations in your next project.

Multiple Anchors

Featured Imgs 23

Only Chris, right? You’ll want to view this in a Chromium browser:

This is exactly the sort of thing I love, not for its practicality (cuz it ain’t), but for how it illustrates a concept. Generally, tutorials and demos try to follow the “rules” — whatever those may be — yet breaking them helps you understand how a certain thing works. This is one of those.

The concept is pretty straightforward: one target element can be attached to multiple anchors on the page.

<div class="anchor-1"></div>
<div class="anchor-2"></div>
<div class="target"></div>

We’ve gotta register the anchors and attach the .target to them:

.anchor-1 {
  anchor-name: --anchor-1;
}

.anchor-2 {
  anchor-name: --anchor-2;
}

.target {

}

Wait, wait! I didn’t attach the .target to the anchors. That’s because we have two ways to do it. One is using the position-anchor property.

.target {
  position-anchor: --anchor-1;
}

That establishes a target-anchor relationship between the two elements. But it only accepts a single anchor value. Hmm. We need more than that. That’s what the anchor() function can do. Well, it doesn’t take multiple values, but we can declare it multiple times on different inset properties, each referencing a different anchor.

.target {
  top: anchor(--anchor-1, bottom);
}

The second piece of anchor()‘s function is the anchor edge we’re positioned to and it’s gotta be some sort of physical or logical insettop, bottom, start, end, inside, outside, etc. — or percentage. We’re bascially saying, “Take that .target and slap it’s top edge against --anchor-1‘s bottom edge.

That also works for other inset properties:

.target {
  top: anchor(--anchor-1 bottom);
  left: anchor(--anchor-1 right);
  bottom: anchor(--anchor-2 top);
  right: anchor(--anchor-2 left);
}

Notice how both anchors are declared on different properties by way of anchor(). That’s rad. But we aren’t actually anchored yet because the .target is just like any other element that participates in the normal document flow. We have to yank it out with absolute positioning for the inset properties to take hold.

.target {
  position: absolute;

  top: anchor(--anchor-1 bottom);
  left: anchor(--anchor-1 right);
  bottom: anchor(--anchor-2 top);
  right: anchor(--anchor-2 left);
}

In his demo, Chris cleverly attaches the .target to two <textarea> elements. What makes it clever is that <textarea> allows you to click and drag it to change its dimensions. The two of them are absolutely positioned, one pinned to the viewport’s top-left edge and one pinned to the bottom-right.

If we attach the .target's top and left edges to --anchor-1‘s bottom and right edges, then attach the target's bottom and right edges to --anchor-2‘s top and left edges, we’re effectively anchored to the two <textarea> elements. This is what allows the .target element to stretch with the <textarea> elements when they are resized.

But there’s a small catch: a <textarea> is resized from its bottom-right corner. The second <textarea> is positioned in a way where the resizer isn’t directly attached to the .target. If we rotate(180deg), though, it’s all good.

Again, you’ll want to view that in a Chromium browser at the time I’m writing this. Here’s a clip instead if you prefer.

That’s just a background-color on the .target element. We can put a little character in there instead as a background-image like Chris did to polish this off.

Fun, right?! It still blows my mind this is all happening in CSS. It wasn’t many days ago that something like this would’ve been a job for JavaScript.

That’s because I had a chance to sit down with Lynn for a whopping hour to do nothing more than gab, gab, and gab some more. I love these little Smashing Hours because they’re informal like that and I feel like I really get to know the person I’m talking with. And this was my very first time talking with Lynn, we had a ton to talk about — her CSS art, her annual site refreshes, where she finds inspiration for her work, when the web started to “click” for her… and so much more.

Don’t miss the bit where Lynn discusses her current site design (~24 min.) because it’s a masterclass in animation and creativity.

5 Tips for Creating a Modern PowerPoint Presentation

If you’re new to designing PowerPoint presentations, these tips will help you create a more professional looking slideshow to win your audience.

1. Use Minimal and Professional Slide Designs

Let’s face it, all of the default templates included in PowerPoint are terrible and have outdated designs. They’ll never help make your presentation stand out from the crowd.

Libre - Powerpoint Template

So start your process by finding a better and professionally designed PowerPoint template to make your slideshow look more creative and original. You’d be surprised to see the amazing designs on some of the templates you can download from third-party websites. They’ll make your old presentations look like something from the 1980s.

2. Find and Use Better Custom Fonts

Fonts take a major role in presentation slideshows as they help attract attention to each of your slides. Consider using custom fonts in your presentations.

Expand - Powerpoint Template

With the right combination of a big bold title font and a body font with an easy to read design, you can create presentations to deliver a great user experience that shows off professionalism.

3. Write Shorter Sentences

In most cases, a PowerPoint presentation should focus on highlighting the key points of a speech and to visualize data. And you should keep it that way and avoid making your presentation look like a novel filled with long paragraphs.

Pancja - Powerpoint Template

You can achieve this goal by creating a content layout for including shorter sentences and paragraphs. Use bullet points and icons as well.

4. Add Shapes, Images, Charts, and Graphs

Modern PowerPoint presentations are usually very visually appealing and it’s beautiful to look at. You can make similar presentations by including lots of shapes and large images to make each slide look more creative.

Sureprise Powerpoint Template

You can also use charts and infographics to visualize data from studies, show projections, summarize reports, and even make strong statements.

5. Use a Modern Color Palette

While using minimal designs is always a great approach to designing professional PowerPoint slideshows, many modern presentations feature colorful designs as well.

Lamia - Modern PowerPoint Template

Create a color palette that matches your brand and your industry. Use it to add a stylish look to each of the slides in your presentations while maintaining a persistent design.

Stumped by AI in Public Relations? Here Are 6 Ways It Can Boost Your Strategy

Featured Imgs 23

I know. “AI public relations” (PR) kind of sounds like an oxymoron.

Download Now: Free Press Release Template

Public relations is about shaping and sharing your human stories with other humans. It’s about capturing and creating genuine human excitement and resonance. How can we ever leave that to the robots?

Well, we can’t — at least not entirely. Like applying AI to digital marketing or any other field, you must be selective and thoughtful about incorporating AI into your public relations strategy. That’s where we come in.

We’ll unpack the pros and cons of using AI in public relations and share some of the smartest use cases and expert tips to help you get the most out of it.

Table of contents

Why Use AI in Public Relations (PR)

Using AI in public relations has many benefits, but they all come back to one all professionals strive for — improved productivity.

graphic showing the pros and cons of using AI in public relations

Let’s break down the specifics.

Pros of AI Public Relations

Higher Efficiency

HubSpot research found 90% of marketers say AI and automation help them spend less time on manual tasks, more time on the responsibilities they enjoy most (80%), and more time on the creative aspects of their role (79%). Public relations is no exception.

In fact, 76.6% of PR professionals already use AI tools to automate their most tedious and repetitive tasks, according to Prowly.

For PR professionals, AI can mean quicker market and campaign analysis, as well as faster press release and pitch drafting. AI and automation can also help eliminate manual tasks like email follow-ups to your press partners.

Lower Costs

By aiding with time-consuming and mundane tasks, AI can also help minimize unnecessary expenses in your public relations budget.

For example, if you pay a freelancer by the hour to draft press releases, using an AI tool like Jasper or even HubSpot’s Free AI Content Writer can help cut the need for those hours.

Don’t believe me? Prowly found that 43.5% of PR professionals using tools say it has reduced their companies' overall costs and resource needs. That’s on top of 48.2% reporting they struggled with working with a small budget in the past 12 months.

These small efficiencies add up.

Increased ROI

With lower costs comes the potential for increased return on investment (ROI). Hard to argue with that.

Cons of AI Public Relations

As great as AI sounds for public relations, it still has drawbacks.

Data Quality & Accuracy

Data quality and accuracy are some of the biggest concerns of using AI in public relations or any use case, really.

Most public artificial intelligence runs off information fed from its users and the internet — and I think we all know we can’t trust everything we read online.

Because of this, you can’t always know if the results you get from AI are accurate or based on reliable sources. This can be dangerous when using AI in public relations, especially when doing research.

Be wary of validity and even bias. The last thing you want to do is make strategic decisions based on false or misguided information.

Privacy

There’s no doubt that AI can help expedite your public relations workflow, but that often means sharing details about your brand or company to produce results you can actually use.

AI is currently unregulated, so any information you share is at risk of being stored or passed onto others using the tool, including potentially our competitors.

Lack of Human Touch

Public relations is about human connection. It’s about how your brand or client is perceived by other people and the public at large.

While impressive, AI or automation’s ability can only go far in this arena.

AI can’t create personal relationships and bonds. It can’t take photos with fans, shake hands with potential investors, or attend a charity event. It can’t “read the room” or understand the sensitive nuances of current events or culture.

And its insights and information are only as current as its last update. So. tread lightly when using AI or automation for one-on-one communication.

Without careful editing or strategic use of the tools, its artificial nature can be easy to spot.

How is AI used in public relations?

The possibilities of artificial intelligence are pretty boundless, but with the cons and limitations we discussed in mind, here are some of the best use cases in public relations.

1. Drafting press releases and pitches

In one of my first marketing and PR jobs, I wrote and distributed about 2-5 press releases a day. I enjoyed it, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t time-consuming, let alone draining.

I may also have developed Carpal Tunnel Syndrome from all the typing, but we’re not here to discuss the importance of workspace ergonomics.

With generative AI, you can dramatically reduce your press release and pitch writing time (and maybe even Carpal Tunnel Syndrome).

All you need is a prompt answering these questions:

  • What is the goal of your press release?
  • What important information do you have to include?
  • Who is it intended for?
  • What tone do you want to use?

To illustrate, I gave ChatGPT this prompt:

“Can you write me a press release about Apple's September 2024 Product Event? It should include the date and time -- Monday, September 9th at 10:00 AM PT and get the general public excited about it.”

Here’s what I got back:

Screenshot showing a sample press release written by ChatGPT

But remember, this should only be a starting point. Neerja Patel, a PR professional of over 15 years and founder and CEO of her own PR firm, advises, “Use AI to enhance your creativity and assist with research and content creation.”

“It shouldn’t replace your thought process or be used as a substitution for your work. The most impactful campaigns that have maximum outcomes are the ones that blend the human mind with AI.”

Pro tip: “To ensure you are telling the best narrative in AI-assisted press releases, include not only important and relevant information but also current world trends,” continues Patel.

“This will help strengthen your messaging, ultimately increasing your chances of garnering attention from journalists and securing stories in publications.”

Also, are you not the savviest with ChatGPT or prompting just yet? Our free guide, “How to Use ChatGPT at Work,” will introduce you to the tool and share best practices and 100 prompt ideas to get you started.

These skills are easily adaptable to other chatbot-style tools like HubSpot’s Free AI Content Writer. You can try them in a tool specifically designed for public relations, like Meltwater.

2. Automating social media engagement

Being able to schedule social media posts for publication frees up a lot of time for marketers and PR professionals, but the use cases for AI and automation don’t end there.

You can also use AI to respond to comments or direct messages automatically.

There are a few options out there for this, but personally, I’m a big fan of the conversational marketing tool ManyChat.

Screenshot showing what automation can look like on the backend of ManyChat

ManyChat can be used to automatically respond to comments on Instagram posts or send a personal message when people use a specific word or phrase. It can also be used with Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp.

3. Monitoring brand sentiment and reputation

AI and automation can also help keep you keep a pulse on how the public feels about you or your brand. In other words, it can help you monitor brand sentiment and reputation changes.

It all comes back to social listening.

For example, Digimind’s social listening tool “combines Digimind’s AI Sense with OpenAI’s ChatGPT to monitor social media, blogs, reviews, podcasts and more, to detect key events about any brand or topic,” explained MarTech managing editor Constantine von Hoffman.

“It then determines important metrics, such as reach, brand impact, and key mentions sent to ChatGPT to be analyzed and summarized in plain English in real-time.”

Need a more simple or budget-friendly alternative?

Screenshot of the Google Alerts page

Set up Google Alerts for any phrase or keywords you like, such as your brand or product name. For there, Google monitors the web for new content matching your terms and sends an automated email when a new result appears.

It’s free and effortless for you to maintain.

Pro tip: If you’re a HubSpot user, use social inbox streams.

Screenshot showing HubSpot social monitoring tools

These streams allow you to monitor social media for mentions of your brand, product, or other keywords from within your portal.

4. Maintaining your press list(s)

Prowly’s State of PR Technology reports that nearly half of public relations professionals struggle to find relevant media contacts.

Databases like those from Prowly, Cision, and Brandwatch can help, but even once you find your contacts, maintaining the list can be just as hard.

Thankfully, this is one area where AI shines brightest.

For one, AI and automation can help you segment your press contacts into different lists based on their unique specialties or demographics.

You can create one list for television, another for digital media, and others segmented by location, like New York or London.

Screenshot of HubSpot smart list tool

AI can also help clean your data by automatically identifying and removing inactive or bounced email addresses, correcting typos in email addresses, and filtering out duplicates.

All this helps reduce list decay and improve deliverability rates.

Pro tip: If you use HubSpot, use smart lists and workflows to keep your press lists current.

Smart lists will automatically update, adding and removing contacts based on the criteria you set, while workflows can be used to clean data in the CRM.

5. Reaching out to media.

AI doesn’t just help you build and maintain your press list; it can help you contact it.

For instance, using automated email tools like HubSpot’s, you can set up follow-up messages for new contacts who download your press/media kit or those who email about press inquiries.

You can even set up a series to follow up with contacts who may not have opened your outreach or have gone dark.

Screenshot showing what it’s like building a workflow in HubSpot

Rather than having to send out dozens, if not hundreds, of manual emails, automation can scale your outreach efforts and increase your chances of getting

6. Researching

This likely goes without saying, but AI can be a game-changer in public relations research.

Using AI rather than a conventional search engine can make it easier to answer specific queries. Why exactly? Well, there is no need to click through multiple pages and hope you find what you need; AI does that for you.

It crawls the web for related resources and then distills and summarizes the content for you. While it may take a few tries to get the exact information you need, an AI chatbot like ChatGPT or Meta AI can save you massive amounts of time scrolling.

(Ai)ding your public relations success

As quick-witted as many people are, AI can generally process requests, analyze data, and respond faster than humans ever could.

I mean, think about it this way: I can do long division, but that doesn’t mean a calculator won’t help me get the answer faster.

Take our tips and advice above and start using AI in public relations with the same mindset.

What Channels See The Most Social Media ROI? [New Data To Inspire Your Strategy]

Featured Imgs 23

To be candid, I have a love-hate relationship with social media.

Download Now: The 2024 State of Social Media Trends [Free Report]

Sometimes, I’m annoyed at how exciting those “likes” can be.

At others, I’m ecstatic at the social media advertising ROI (return on investment) my teams can generate. It just keeps me coming back for more — and I know I’m not alone in this feeling.

According to our 2024 State of Marketing & Trends Report, marketers consider social media their biggest source of ROI alongside their website or blog. Paid social media content follows closely in the second spot.

But what platforms and tactics can deliver the most ROI for your business?

Let’s dive into the latest findings from HubSpot’s 2024 Social Trends Report to answer those questions and hear from experts at Brandfolder, Sprout Social, Rakuten Advertising, and more.

Table of Contents

What is social media ROI?

Simply put, social media ROI is exactly what it sounds like — the return on investment you get from your social media marketing and advertising campaigns.

It measures the results you make or receive compared to how much you spend.

Depending on your goals, this can be done using a number of different metrics.

For instance, if your goal is to build brand awareness, you might prioritize metrics demonstrating reach or engagement — such as new followers, impressions, audience growth rate, or social shares.

These tend to be the most common, in my experience, but other metrics to measure social media marketing and advertising ROI include likes, comments, or sales.

Arguably the most direct approach is to zero in on revenue.

How do you calculate social media ROI?

graphic showing social media roi formula and example

Our survey found that measuring ROI is one of the five biggest challenges marketers face with social media. That’s out of 22 possible options.

Numbers and I don’t always get along, so I get where they’re coming from. But thankfully, measuring social media ROI is pretty simple.

This formula can be used with revenue in mind:

Social media ROI = (Total Revenue - Total Investment) / Total Investment

“Total revenue” is the amount of money generated from your campaigns, while “total investment” is the amount of money you put in (like resources, labor cost, cost per click, etc.).

When you run your calculation, a negative result means you spent more money on your campaigns than you got back — womp — and a positive result means the opposite.

Let’s illustrate with an example. Say you spent $500 on social media advertising last quarter and made $1250. Using our formula:

= (1250--500) / 500

= (750) / 500

= 1.5

Your social media advertising ROI is 1.5. This means you made $1.50 for every dollar you spent.

Note: This formula will give your ROI in the dollar amount, but if you’d like it expressed in a percentage, follow: (Total Revenue - Total Investment) / Total Investment x 100

Which social media channels have the best ROI?

bar chart showing the social media channels with the highest roi

HubSpot's 2024 Social Media Trends Report found YouTube provides marketers with the highest ROI while Meta-owned Facebook and Instagram trail closely behind.

TikTok follows, but X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, and other small platforms clock in with less than 10% of marketers vouching for them.

This list is likely not surprising. The top five are some of the largest and most active social media networks. Plus, those marketers reported delivering the highest ROI when working with influencers/creators.

Let’s dig deeper into the top four to learn why, and I’ll share some tips on getting the most out of them.

1. YouTube

Ranking third in our list last year, YouTube has made a huge jump to our #1 social media channel for ROI this year for marketers — and more than half (54%) plan on increasing their investment in the platform this year.

But why exactly?

First off, there’s reach.

YouTube receives about 30 billion monthly visits and commands an audience of over 2.5 billion people (including over 100 million Premium subscribers). Every generation, from alpha to boomers, is on the platform. This means there’s a strong chance your audience is, too.

Our survey found that marketers think YouTube has the best audience targeting tools. This makes reaching your audience easy with its paid ads.

The platform also has a very low barrier to entry.

Setting up a YouTube channel is free, and with a smartphone and some editing software, you can create content at little to no cost. Throw in AI and you can streamline your effort, too.

This automatically sets you up for a great return on your investment.

YouTube is also one of the most respected names in video, and consumers across the board have shown a strong preference for video content.

How to Get the Most ROI Out of YouTube

Team up with creators or influencers.

21% of marketers say YouTube (alongside Facebook) offers the highest ROI when working with influencers or creators. That’s the highest of all platforms.

Experiment with both long and short-form content.

While known for its long-form content, YouTube Shorts can be used to capitalize on the user preference for short-form video. (More on that later.)

Check out our free YouTube Marketing Course to get started.

2. Facebook

With over 3 billion monthly active users, Facebook is the most popular social media platform worldwide — despite what much of Gen Z may tell you.

Baby boomers and Gen X name it one of their top favorite platforms, while millennials and Gen Z frequent it for events and Facebook Marketplace.

However, its large audience is just one reason Facebook remains the social media platform with the second highest ROI since last year. And also why 53% of marketers plan to increase their investment in it this year.

According to our survey, Facebook offers the second-best audience targeting tools out of all social media platforms, only losing out to YouTube by 1%.

The social media giant lets you target by demographics, interests, and even previous behavior — like visiting your website or attending one of your Facebook Events.

These paid ads can appear in a user's newsfeed or Messenger app and include formats like carousels, boosted posts, and videos. Marketers can also leverage Facebook Lead Ads to get users to fill out a lead generation form without leaving the social platform. Here’s an example from YSL Beauty.

example of a fb lead gen form ad example of a fb lead gen form ad

Nicole Ondracek, HubSpot's Paid Advertising Senior Marketing Manager, agrees that Facebook is an incredibly viable channel.

“At HubSpot, Facebook is a valuable channel for us in driving return on ad spend. A main reason why is that we can provide our content to a relevant audience using Facebook's audience targeting features. For instance, Facebook's lookalike audiences allow us to go after people who look like our current customers,” she shared.

“Facebook's algorithm is great at finding similar audiences who are likely to convert, which is why we see a positive return on investment going after these types of audiences.”

How to Get the Most ROI Out of Facebook

Over the years, I have seen Facebook evolve into one of the hardest places to make an organic impact.

Facebook Groups still prove to get traction and you certainly want to maintain a presence on the platform with a business page. But depending on your goals, your time and effort is likely best spent on Facebook Ads.

Here are a few ways to get the best ROI with that in mind:

Boost posts.

Is a post on your Facebook page getting a lot of engagement or clicks? Think of that as a successful experiment proving your audience enjoys that content. It likely has great potential to perform well as an ad through “boosting.”

Learn more on boosted posts.

Try retargeting.

Retargeting means you can target users on Facebook with ads related to pages they’ve visited on your website or actions they’ve taken. This helps make the ads feel more personalized, relevant and, in turn, more likely to boost your ROI.

Learn more on how to get the most out of your Facebook Ads budget.

3. Instagram

I was surprised to see this, but Instagram actually fell two spots on our list of social media platforms with the highest ROI from last year. But no need to panic.

The margin is small, and 52% of marketers plan to increase their Instagram investment next year.

With over 2 billion monthly active users, Meta-owned Instagram engages a large global audience, offering opportunities for many types of businesses.

Marketers can increase reach and boost sales through non-organic means like Instagram Ads or shoppable posts. In fact, our survey found that 71% of marketers who sell products on Instagram rated it as high ROI more than any other channel.

Plus, 50% of users are more interested in a brand after seeing its ads on Instagram.

(After being hit with ads like this one for Candlelight Concerts for months, I finally caved in February and it was amazing.)

instagram story ad example from candlelight concerts

But it shines with generating ROI from organic content as well.

90% of users follow at least one business on Instagram. And with high-engagement features like Stories, Reels, carousels, and Live streaming, there’s no shortage of opportunities to get creative.

Instagram is also the social platform with the second-highest ROI when working with influencers/creators (20%), missing the top spot by just 1%.

How to Get the Most ROI Out of Instagram

Team up with creators or influencers.

Instagram missed our spot for the channel with the highest ROI when working with influencers by just one percent, so they certainly deserve some attention in your social media strategy.

Whether you’re collaborating on content, conducting an interview, or simply sponsoring a post, take some time to explore your options.

Read more in our article, “Influencer Marketing Strategy: How to Build a Plan Creators & Customers Will Love [+ Templates]”

Post Stories with stickers.

We already know Instagram Stories grab eyes with their prime real estate at the top of the app’s home screen, but the benefits don’t stop there.

Stickers can help make content more dynamic and interactive by soliciting options and clicks. You can use Stickers to create polls, ask and answer questions, or link viewers to your website.

4. TikTok

I can’t lie to you: TikTok is still a bit of an enigma to me.

Not much is understood about how to please the algorithm, and the types of content that do well are all over the spectrum — from ASMR to talking-head storytelling.

I have a younger cousin who gained over 20k followers from one video, and she still can't tell you how or why it happened.

Despite all the mystery, TikTok is still the social media platform with the fourth-highest ROI, according to our research.

As of 2024, TikTok has over 1.5 billion monthly active users and is predicted to hit 2.2 billion by 2027. And these users aren’t passive about their engagement.

They spend an estimated 4.43 billion minutes watching videos each day and 30% of daily users have used TikTok Shop.

screenshot of tiktok shop

This growth and passionate engagement has 56% of marketers planning to increase their investment in TikTok next year, the highest of any platform.

Users are not just members of Gen Z either, though they certainly lead the pack. According to Statista, millennials (46%), Gen X (32%), and baby boomers (14%) report using the app as well, though in smaller numbers.

How to Get the Most ROI Out of TikTok

Follow and engage with trends.

Trends are born and they die on social media, and this is especially true on TikTok. One of the easiest ways to start making traction on the platform is by hopping on trending sounds and video styles.

This way, you make yourself relevant to conversations that are already happening rather than trying to steal attention from them.

Dunkin is strong in this area, as seen in this video using the viral “Very Demure” audio from creator Jools Lebron:

And if you click on the audio link, you can see they’re not the only ones.

screenshot of all the videos using joolie annie's very demure audio on tiktok

Try TikTok Ads.

Getting organic traction on TikTok can be difficult, but to speed up the process you can try TikTok Ads. We have an article to get you started.

Pro tip: If you’re a HubSpot user, you can also explore using the TikTok Ads integration with HubSpot. It can be used to:

  • Capture TikTok leads in the HubSpot CRM in real time.
  • Connect TikTok to HubSpot in under 10 minutes without using code.
  • Immediately reach out to new leads from TikTok when they’re most open to chatting.

Which strategies get the most social media advertising ROI?

Now, regardless of the platform, there are certain trends and truths you can follow to help get the most ROI out of your social media efforts.

Here are seven I recommend based on our data, my own personal experience, and insight from other industry experts.

1. Short-form Video

According to our survey, 67% of marketers plan to increase their investment in short-form video in the next year, while 31% will maintain their investment.

And why not? 71% of marketers using the medium already report it has high ROI, the highest ROI out of all content mediums.

graphic showing the high roi of short-form video

We also know consumers love video in general, with Sprout Social finding it the most popular medium on social media. Yet, many marketers find it is underutilized, especially in social media advertising.

Adina Jipa, co-founder of Socialinsider, told us, "A recent study about Facebook video strategy shows that only roughly 15% of the content [on Facebook] is video, while photos represent 38.58%.

Facebook wants to become a video-first platform and favors pages with video content, but for most brands, it is [primarily] a photo-sharing platform."

Instagram was also public about pushing short-form video content to compete with YouTube and TikTok.

That said, to stand out and increase ROI, consider how you might incorporate video into your social media efforts.

Additionally, consider testing out different video formats across your channels. For instance, Facebook allows brands to create vertical video ads for mobile users, which is also needed for Instagram Story ads.

As Jipa says, "You can use vertical videos on ads to get more clicks. Almost 69% of marketers say video ads outperform image and plain text ads on Facebook, and 81% of Facebook users only access the platform via mobile devices.

“Looking at these behaviors, using vertical video allows you to get more visibility and increase the chances of getting more clicks."

2. Incorporating Humor

According to our study, humorous content results in the biggest ROI of any content type.

Using humor in marketing and advertising is nothing new. It’s been a strategic move for decades. I mean, I’m still laughing about this Orbit gum commercial 17 years later:

Humor grabs attention, is memorable, encourages sharing, and makes you likable overall. So, look for ways to incorporate it naturally into your social media content.

Oreo does a great job of incorporating humor and current events into its social media content.

3. Repurposing Content for Multiple Platforms

Should you be posting the exact same content and message across all your social media platforms? Of course not — they all have unique cultures and user behaviors, let alone technical specs.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t adapt and repurpose a single piece of content for different platforms.

“Far too often, content is created for one-and-done campaigns or promotions,” Casted's CEO and Co-founder Lindsay Tjepkema explains.

“This means marketers are working harder and harder to produce more and more constantly, yet ROI and ROE (return on effort) results are disappointing.”

She continues, "To change this, we must stop creating content for content's sake and focus instead on creating content that educates, entertains, and delights that can be broken down and amplified across all other channels not just once, but many times over.”

To repurpose your content across channels, perhaps you post snippets of a full YouTube video on Facebook, TikTok, or Instagram.

Alternatively, you could take select text from a blog post and repost it on your channels to add value to your existing content. This way you’re repurposing user-generated content across channels.

There are countless ways to refresh and re-use content to appeal to new audiences uniquely without exhausting your social team.

Pro tip: Use AI to expedite the process of repurposing. Ask ChatGPT to write tweets for you based on the copy from a blog. Or, if you use HubSpot, give Content Remix a try.

With Content Remix, Professional and Enterprise-level users of Content Hub can repurpose existing content into new formats.

This can include content hosted on HubSpot (i.e., images, social posts, text messages, ads, and blog posts) or new content you upload to the tool.

4. Aligning your Platform with Your Goal

It's difficult to achieve results on social without taking the time to set clear goals for your team. But not all social media channels are good for the same goals.

To see the best ROI from social media, make sure that you are choosing the platforms best suited to your needs.

For example, if you’re trying to boost website organic traffic, YouTube may be the way to go. YouTube is owned by Google, and its videos are shown in SERPs. The video platform is also conventionally held as “the world’s second-largest search engine.”

As Brandfolder's Senior Digital Marketing Manager Amanda Turcotte told us, "In order to achieve a return on your social media investment, you must have clear goals set before any tactical planning takes place.”

“Various social media tactics can be applied differently to each of the platforms, meaning they'll produce different outcomes. So your goals must be determined up front to ensure they align with your social strategy."

Pro tip: Use UTM tags for tracking

quote from amanda turcotte about using utm tags

The only way to know if you’re truly hitting your goals is by being able to track and measure your activity. UTM tracking links are one of the easiest ways to do this.

As Matt Janaway, CEO of MarketingLabs, told us, "Tracking is now more important than ever thanks to the complications of iOS privacy improvements, so to really yield the best ROI, you have to make sure you are using UTM tags on all links.”

“This way, you can correctly track the performance of your campaigns in Analytics and get the data you need to make decisions that can drive more engagement and ROI."

If you’re a HubSpot user, you can create tracking URLs right within the platform.

5. Establishing Consistency

Once you‘ve determined your social goals, you’ll want to create a consistent brand and strategy so your audience knows what they can expect from you.

What time will you post? What type of content will you post? What will the posts look and sound like?

Establishing these guidelines will also help your team execute more cohesively and efficiently.

Turcotte told us, "To move your team from strategy to action and keep everyone on the same page, it's crucial to develop a regular posting plan that documents your approach across each channel, where all team members have access.”

Additionally, Agnieszka Jaśkiewicz, Head of Social Media & Community at LiveChat shared:

"Digital templates for creative assets — set to the specifications of the organization‘s core social media platforms — can also add agility to social media managers’ ability to publish, allowing teams to be more timely and quickly act on new opportunities."

Pro tip: To make posting consistently easier, try using a social posting tool like HubSpot's Social Inbox Tool or Later.

Jaśkiewicz agrees that creating a strategy and using tools to support your team's goals is critical for finding success on social channels.

As she put it, “The greatest area of 'untapped potential' for most brands comes in streamlining creative workflows."

"Digital workspaces [and tools] allow creatives and marketers to collaborate from a central location to stage, revise, and produce content, limiting back-and-forth communication and unnecessary steps in production.”

6. Social Commerce

Over the past few years, we've seen a rise in social commerce, or the ability to make a purchase without leaving a social platform.

You’ve likely seen this on Instagram and TikTok (see below). And as we discussed earlier, users are taking a liking to it.

example of a shoppable videos on tiktok example of a product page in the tiktok shop

Rachael Samuels, Senior Manager of Social Media at Sprout Social, told me she sees social commerce as a great opportunity to continue to increase ROI on social channels as it allows users to take action the second the urge to buy hits them.

She shared, “Social commerce not only provides more seamless buying experiences for customers but equips marketers with the ability to show direct attribution and ROI as a result of their efforts.”

Pro tip: Leverage Meta's Advantage+ Shopping Campaigns.

It‘s no secret that Meta’s suite of platforms — namely Instagram and Facebook — packs a huge ROI punch. Yomi Arokoyo, VP of Performance Solutions at Rakuten Advertising, attributes this to Meta's powerful algorithm.

He told us, "Each social platform has improved its algorithm over time to be more intuitive and automated, but none more than Meta. For example, with Meta's Advantage+ Shopping Campaigns, brands can find new customers in places they never even thought to look."

Launched globally in 2022, Advantage+ Shopping Campaigns largely rely on AI and automation to find the right audience for your ads (as opposed to manual targeting). On top of that, it even adjusts ad formats to understand which format performs best.

To take advantage of this new tech, Arokoyo recommends employing as much creative differentiation as possible. For instance, add old creative or cut up longer videos into smaller, more digestible clips. This gives the algorithm more data to determine which campaigns are effective.

7. Encouraging Your Employees to Become Brand Ambassadors

One area of major underutilized social media potential? Your employees.

Many users ago, one of my responsibilities at a former employer was running the employee advocacy program. In other words, I created and distributed copy and materials to make it easier for everyone on our team to promote the company’s content and initiatives on their own social media.

It eventually ended because individual platforms began cracking down on third-party publishing. But for many years, it dramatically helped boost our reach, traffic, and engagement.

As Casted‘s Tjepkema explains it, "As consumers, we’re far more driven to engage with user-generated content, yet so many brands spend too much time and money trying only to push content from their own brand."

quote from casted ceo Lindsay Tjepkema

“Rally your employees around the content you're creating and encourage them to share it with captions that show their unique and personal perspectives. This is a great way to help each member of your team build their personal brand while also amplifying your content to audiences in a more authentic way.”

LiveChat's Jaśkiewicz agrees with this notion, saying, "[You should] give employee advocacy a

bigger seat at the table in your social media strategy, especially when it comes to LinkedIn.”

“It takes some time and effort to provide people with the knowledge and imply the ‘brand ambassadors’ mindset in the organization — however, employee engagement is a cost-effective way to increase your reach organically."

This is something HubSpot does frequently with the roll out of big announcements such as our 2024 Spotlight.

Our product team had a comprehensive content plan leading up to the big day, including videos and emails. It also created a comprehensive social media kit to help others at HubSpot spread the word.

screenshot of employee advocacy slidedeck from hubspot

We also frequently host HubSpot Employee Takeovers and highlight “Days in #HubSpotLife” from employees on the HubSpot Life Instagram account.

These campaigns help show audiences the faces behind the brand and create a sense of community and authenticity that you wouldn't find with branded content alone.

To Many Happy Returns… On Investment

Our survey found that most marketers believe proving ROI will be the second-biggest change they’ll face in social media marketing in the coming year.

Social can clearly have a societal and cultural impact, but that also takes time and attention. So, of course, you need to be able to prove it’s worth it.

Increasing your social media ROI won’t happen overnight. But by experimenting with your platforms and the strategies and tactics we shared, you can start moving towards the right formula for your brand.

How to Do Meme Marketing, According to Memelord Jason Levin

Featured Imgs 23

When most people see memes pop up, they don’t think much about them.

Download Now: The 2024 State of Social Media Trends [Free Report]

“Oh it’s just a stupid meme page,” you might say. “What’s there to think about? What’s the big deal?” But what if I told you some of these “stupid meme pages” are making millions?

And what if I told you it wasn’t just meme pages, but some of Silicon Valley’s hottest startups and the world’s most iconic luxury brands are using memes to make millions, too? Would you start thinking about how to use memes in your marketing too? Of course you would!

Meme marketing leverages the power of humor to get attention on the internet, but humor-based marketing isn’t a new thing. It’s been done for hundreds of years since newspaper ads in the 1700s for magical hair growth potions.

Meme marketing is just the newest internet-native version of it. And it’s been used by the biggest brands in the world — from Duolingo to Porsche, Sony, and more.

As Gen Z and Gen Alpha take hold and become the next class of founders, CEOs, and CMOs, I believe this trend will only continue to grow.

Here’s why you should implement it in your marketing strategy ASAP.

meme marketing examples, Duolingo, Porsche, Sony

Memes are the highest leverage marketing on earth.

Leverage is all about achieving bigger results with less work.

Meme marketing isn’t some magical get-rich-quick scheme. It’s a lever to pull like anything else. And I think it’s one of the strongest out there.

Think about it. Memes are:

  1. Free to make
  2. Fast to make
  3. An easy way to go viral

What could be higher leverage than that?

When I realized this, I became obsessed with understanding the tricks to meme marketing.

I interviewed every memelord, meme marketer, and meme page operator I could find: a memelord who sold a content agency for $1M+, a growth hacker at a fintech startup worth $100M+ whose main growth tactic has been ads on meme pages to grow it, and a startup founder who drove $3M+ in SaaS sales from viral memes and sold his company for $100M+.

Then, I wrote all about it in my book Memes Make Millions.

Jason Levin sitting on a couch reading his book, Memes Make Millions

But I didn’t just write about the tactics.

I put the tactics into action to prove they worked. I tweet memes like a madman and get millions of views every month.

I went viral and got 26M+ views for a video of me reading meme-y books on the New York Subway. I even went viral in Paris and got turned into a meme!

All this attention has resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars per year as a marketing consultant helping startups go viral (and blow up the internet).

So, how does meme marketing work?

Step 1. Learn the industry and trends.

If you tried paying me $100k to make memes about hockey, I couldn’t do it.

I know nothing about hockey (except that Canadians are weirdly good at it for some reason). But I can make memes about startups and venture capital all day.

I live and breathe startups. I listen to All-In and My First Million. I go to the tech parties. I read the books. I work with startups all day everyday, and many of my friends are founders/VCs.

I’m on the timeline interacting with people in this world all day. I’m deep in this world. And I can make viral memes night and day.

The takeaway: You can only make memes about industries you’re deep in.

You can make memes about any industry from hockey to gardening to healthcare to startups. The main thing is you need to know the zeitgeist and what’s going on.

Because the meme world is so fast-paced, I actually started a daily newsletter with new viral memes to help people figure out the meme zeitgeist.

Step 2. Know the problems.

Good memes come from problems your industry faces.

If you look at the best meme pages across finance, tech, whatever, the best memes are typically about problems you’re facing.

If you’re in accounting, you meme about Excel. If you’re in startups, you meme about VCs taking the summers off to party in France.

If you’re making memes for your brand, become hyper-focused on what problems your users face. If you’re working on software for writers, you better know what problems writers face (e.g., writer’s block, not enough caffeine, etc.).

Step 3. Know who you cannot offend.

This is something super underrated that most social media managers don’t think about.

It’s actually okay to offend some people. I don’t mean using offensive language like insults or charged words — that’s never okay.

But it is okay to poke fun at a job group like accountants or YouTubers. You just have to be thoughtful and selective about who you’re offending and who you don’t want to ever offend or poke fun at.

For example, at one startup I work with, the product is all about helping founders, so we never try to offend founders. Instead, we pick on VCs (they’re easy targets).

At another startup, the customer was engineers, so we never tried to pick on engineers. Instead, we picked on product managers (again, another easy target).

Step 4. Embrace the cringe.

Is making money cringe?

I don’t think so.

After all, I’ve proved that memes make millions.

Memes are a powerful marketing tactic used by everyone from solo creators to public companies like Netflix. Stop worrying about being cringe, and focus on being funny and making money.

Cringe is the new cool. Become a cringe arbitrageur. When you’re willing to be cringe and do things others are afraid of, you can get so much more attention on the internet.

example of the evolution of three meme marketing posts on X (formerly Twitter)

Step 5. Master the tools.

The tools and software are actually the least important part.

Speed is the most important thing.

Yes, you can use paid software like Photoshop, but you can just as easily use free software like Imgflip or Canva. Really just use whatever is the fastest.

My advice? Don’t overthink the tools.

This isn’t a graphic design job — this is meme marketing. Don’t worry about high fidelity, just focus on being funny. Because remember, in the attention economy, being funny makes millions.

The Takeaway

“Humor is related to strength. To have a sense of humor is to be strong: to keep one‘s sense of humor is to shrug off misfortunes, and to lose one’s sense of humor is to be wounded by them. And so the mark — or at least the prerogative — of strength is not to take oneself too seriously.

The confident will often, like swallows, seem to be making fun of the whole process slightly, as Hitchcock does in his films or Bruegel in his paintings — or Shakespeare, for that matter.” – Paul Graham, Taste

Or as I wrote in my book, “Never underestimate the jester because he may be a king in disguise.”

From the 22-year-old NYC goofball posting finance bro memes to the venture-backed startups making memes about Silicon Valley to public companies leveraging meme marketing — they’re all proof that being silly on the internet can help you make serious money.

Text and Image to Video Generation using Diffusion Models in Hugging Face

Featured Imgs 23

The AI wave has introduced a myriad of exciting applications. While text generation and natural language processing are leading the AI revolution, image, and vision-based technologies are quickly catching up. The intersection of text and vision applications has seen a rapid surge recently.

In this article, you'll learn how to generate videos using text and image inputs. We'll leverage open-source models from Hugging Face to bring these applications to life. So, without further ado, let's dive in!

Installing and Importing Required Libraries

We will use the Hugging Face diffusion models to generate videos from text and images. The following script installs the libraries you will need to import these models from Hugging Face.

!pip install --upgrade transformers accelerate diffusers imageio-ffmpeg

For text-to-video generation, we will use the CogVideoX-2b diffusion model. For image-to-video generation, we will use the Stability AI's img2vid model.

The following script imports the Hugging Face pipelines for the two models. We also import some utility classes to save videos and display images.

import torch
from diffusers import CogVideoXPipeline
from diffusers.utils import export_to_video

from diffusers import StableVideoDiffusionPipeline
from diffusers.utils import load_image
Text to Video Generation with Hugging Face Diffusers

The first step is to create a Hugging Face pipeline that can access the CogVideoX-2b model. You can also use the CogVideoX-5b model, but it requires more space and memory.

The following script creates the pipeline for the CogVideoX-2b model. We also call some utility methods such as enable_model_cpu_offload(), enable_sequential_cpu_offload(), enable_slicing(), and enable_tiling() to improve the model performance.

text_video_pipe = CogVideoXPipeline.from_pretrained(
    "THUDM/CogVideoX-2b",
    torch_dtype=torch.float16
)

text_video_pipe.enable_model_cpu_offload()
text_video_pipe.enable_sequential_cpu_offload()
text_video_pipe.vae.enable_slicing()
text_video_pipe.vae.enable_tiling()

Next, we define our text prompt and pass the prompt and other video configurations to the text_video_pipe pipeline that we created in the previous script. You can play around with the configuration settings to see how they affect the output.

The pipeline returns video frames you can export to video using the export_to_video() utility, as the following script shows.

prompt = "A white dog running on a Caribbean beach."

video = text_video_pipe(
    prompt=prompt,
    num_videos_per_prompt=1,
    num_inference_steps=50,
    num_frames=49,
    guidance_scale=6,
    generator=torch.Generator(device="cuda").manual_seed(42),
).frames[0]

export_to_video(video, "text_to_video.mp4", fps=8)

Output:
text-to-video.gif

Note: I intentionally reduced the output video dimensions.

The above output shows the video generated based on our input prompt. Amazing, isn't it?

But the magic doesn't end here. You can also pass an image as input to a diffusion model and get an animated video in response. This is what you will see in the next section.

Image to Video Generation with Hugging Face Diffusers

We will use Stability AI's img2vid model for image-to-video generation.

The script below imports the corresponding pipeline from the Hugging Face library.

image_video_pipe = StableVideoDiffusionPipeline.from_pretrained(
    "stabilityai/stable-video-diffusion-img2vid",
    torch_dtype=torch.float16,
    variant="fp16"
)
image_video_pipe.enable_model_cpu_offload()

We will generate a video using the following image as input. You can use any other image if you want.

## Image link: https://www.brookhavenanimalhosp.com/site/blog/2022/11/15/15-cute-dog-breeds-that-stay-small-forever
image = load_image("/content/image-73073-800.jpg")
image = image.resize((1024, 576))
image

Output:

input-image-for-video-generation.png

To generate video from the image, you must pass the image object and the number of total frames to generate to the image_video_pipe pipeline you created in the previous script.

frames = image_video_pipe(image, num_frames=28).frames[0]
export_to_video(frames, "image_to_video.mp4", fps=7)

Output:

image-to-video.gif

Conclusion

Video generation from text and image inputs is a fascinating application. In this article, you saw how to generate videos from text using open-source diffusion models from Hugging Face. I encourage you to play around with these models to generate your own stunning videos using text prompts and image inputs.

Two CSS Properties for Trimming Text Box Whitespace

Featured Imgs 23

The text-box-trim and text-box-edge properties in CSS enable developers to trim specifiable amounts of the whitespace that appear above the first formatted line of text and below the last formatted line of text in a text box, making the text box vertically larger than the content within.

This whitespace is called leading, and it appears above and below (so it’s two half-leadings, actually) all lines of text to make the text more readable. However, we only want it to appear in between lines of text, right? We don’t want it to appear along the over or under edges of our text boxes, because then it interferes with our margins, paddings, gaps, and other spacings.

As an example, if we implement a 50px margin but then the leading adds another 37px, we’d end up with a grand total of 87px of space. Then we’d need to adjust the margin to 13px in order to make the space 50px in practice.

The word incendiary showing its text box and whitespace above and below it.

As a design systems person, I try to maintain as much consistency as possible and use very little markup whenever possible, which enables me to use the adjacent-sibling combinator (+) to create blanket rules like this:

/* Whenever <element> is followed by <h1> */
<element> + h1 {
  margin-bottom: 13px; /* instead of margin-bottom: 50px; */
}

This approach is still a headache since you still have to do the math (albeit less of it). But with the text-box-trim and text-box-edge properties, 50px as defined by CSS will mean 50px visually:

The word incendiary with its text box flush against its top and bottom edges.

Disclaimer: text-box-trim and text-box-edge are only accessible via a feature flag in Chrome 128+ and Safari 16.4+, as well as Safari Technology Preview without a feature flag. See Caniuse for the latest browser support.

Start with text-box-trim

text-box-trim is the CSS property that basically activates text box trimming. It doesn’t really have a use beyond that, but it does provide us with the option to trim from just the start, just the end, both the start and end, or none:

text-box-trim: trim-start;
text-box-trim: trim-end;
text-box-trim: trim-both;
text-box-trim: none;

Note: In older web browsers, you might need to use the older start/end/both values in place of the newer trim-start/trim-end/trim-both values, respectively. In even older web browsers, you might need to use top/bottom/both. There’s no reference for this, unfortunately, so you’ll just have to see what works.

Now, where do you want to trim from?

You’re probably wondering what I mean by that. Well, consider that a typographic letter has multiple peaks.

There’s the x-height, which marks the top of the letter “x” and other lowercase characters (not including ascenders or overshoots), the cap height, which marks the top of uppercase characters (again, not including ascenders or overshoots), and the alphabetic baseline, which marks the bottom of most letters (not including descenders or overshoots). Then of course there’s the ascender height and descender height too.

You can trim the whitespace between the x-height, cap height, or ascender height and the “over” edge of the text box (this is where overlines begin), and also the white space between the alphabetic baseline or descender height and the “under” edge (where underlines begin if text-underline-position is set to under).

Don’t trim anything

text-box-edge: leading means to include all of the leading; simply don’t trim anything. This has the same effect as text-box-trim: none or forgoing text-box-trim and text-box-edge entirely. You could also restrict under-edge trimming with text-box-trim: trim-start or over edge trimming with text-box-trim: trim-end. Yep, there are quite a few ways to not even do this thing at all!

Newer web browsers have deviated from the CSSWG specification working drafts by removing the leading value and replacing it with auto, despite the “Do not ship (yet)” warning (*shrug*).

Naturally, text-box-edge accepts two values (an instruction regarding the over edge, then an instruction regarding the under edge). However, auto must be used solo.

text-box-edge: auto; /* Works */
text-box-edge: ex auto; /* Doesn't work */
text-box-edge: auto alphabetic; /* Doesn't work */

I could explain all the scenarios in which auto would work, but none of them are useful. I think all we want from auto is to be able to set the over or under edge to auto and the other edge to something else, but this is the only thing that it doesn’t do. This is a problem, but we’ll dive into that shortly.

Trim above the ascenders and/or below the descenders

The text value will trim above the ascenders if used as the first value and below the descenders if used as the second value and is also the default value if you fail to declare the second value. (I think you’d want it to be auto, but it won’t be.)

text-box-edge: ex text; /* Valid */
text-box-edge: ex; /* Computed as `text-box-edge: ex text;` */
text-box-edge: text alphabetic; /* Valid */
text-box-edge: text text; /* Valid */
text-box-edge: text; /* Computed as `text-box-edge: text text;` */

It’s worth noting that ascender and descender height metrics come from the fonts themselves (or not!), so text can be quite finicky. For example, with the Arial font, the ascender height includes diacritics and the descender height includes descenders, whereas with the Fraunces font, the descender height includes diacritics and I don’t know what the ascender height includes. For this reason, there’s talk about renaming text to from-font.

Trim above the cap height only

To trim above the cap height:

text-box-edge: cap; /* Computed as text-box-edge: cap text; */
The word incendiary with the D character slightly outside the top of the text box boundary.

Remember, undeclared values default to text, not auto (as demonstrated above). Therefore, to opt out of trimming the under edge, you’d need to use trim-start instead of trim-both:

text-box-trim: trim-start; /* Not text-box-trim: trim-both; */
text-box-edge: cap; /* Not computed as text-box-edge: cap text; */

Trim above the cap height and below the alphabetic baseline

To trim above the cap height and below the alphabetic baseline:

text-box-trim: trim-both;
text-box-edge: cap alphabetic;
The word incendiary with no whitespace.

By the way, the “Cap height to baseline” option of Figma’s “Vertical trim” setting does exactly this. However, its Dev Mode produces CSS code with outdated property names (leading-trim and text-edge) and outdated values (top and bottom).

Figma screenshot of text settings.

Trim above the x-height only

To trim above the x-height only:

text-box-trim: trim-start;
text-box-edge: ex;
The word incendiary with slight spacing along the bottom edge of its text box.

Trim above the x-height and below the alphabetic baseline

To trim above the x-height and below the alphabetic baseline:

text-box-trim: trim-both;
text-box-edge: ex alphabetic;
The word incendiary with no whitespace.

Trim below the alphabetic baseline only

To trim below the alphabetic baseline only, the following won’t work (things were going so well for a moment, weren’t they?):

text-box-trim: trim-end;
text-box-edge: alphabetic;

This is because the first value is always the mandatory over-edge value whereas the second value is an optional under-edge value. This means that alphabetic isn’t a valid over-edge value, even though the inclusion of trim-end suggests that we won’t be providing one. Complaints about verbosity aside, the correct syntax would have you declare any over-edge value even though you’d effectively cancel it out with trim-end:

text-box-trim: trim-end;
text-box-edge: [any over edge value] alphabetic;
The word incendiary with slight whitespace along the upper edge of its text box.

What about ideographic glyphs?

It’s difficult to know how web browsers will trim ideographic glyphs until they do, but you can read all about it in the spec. In theory, you’d want to use the ideographic-ink value for trimming and the ideographic value for no trimming, both of which aren’t unsupported yet:

text-box-edge: ideographic; /* No trim */
text-box-edge: ideographic-ink; /* Trim */
text-box-edge: ideographic-ink ideographic; /* Top trim */
text-box-edge: ideographic ideographic-ink; /* Bottom trim */

text-box, the shorthand property

If you’re not keen on the verbosity of text box trimming, there’s a shorthand text-box property that makes it somewhat inconsequential. All the same rules apply.

/* Syntax */
text-box: [text-box-trim] [text-box-edge (over)] [text-box-edge (under)]?

/* Example */
text-box: trim-both cap alphabetic;

Final thoughts

At first glance, text-box-trim and text-box-edge might not seem all that interesting, but they do make spacing elements a heck of a lot simpler.

Is the current proposal the best way to handle text box trimming though? Personally, I don’t think so. I think text-box-trim-start and text-box-trim-end would make a lot more sense, with text-box-trim being used as the shorthand property and text-box-edge not being used at all, but I’d settle for some simplification and/or consistent practices. What do you think?

There are some other concerns too. For example, should there be an option to include underlines, overlines, hanging punctuation marks, or diacritics? I’m going to say yes, especially if you’re using text-underline-position: under or a particularly thick text-decoration-thickness, as they can make the spacing between elements appear smaller.

Product Management vs. Program Management vs. Project Management: Key Differences

Featured Imgs 23

Welcome to Creator Columns, where we bring expert HubSpot Creator voices to the Blogs that inspire and help you grow better.

I started my career as a Designer before transitioning into Project Management, and I’ve now been in this field for over 15 years in which 10 of them I worked as a Program Manager. It’s amazing to reflect on how much the landscape has evolved and matured, with new roles and responsibilities along the way.

Download Now: Free Project Management Template

When I moved to the United States and was building my career in this new country, I spent a lot of time searching for jobs, interviewing, and reading job descriptions, of course. Two things really surprised me during that process.

First, although I had been doing Project Management for quite some time and understood what a Product Manager was, I had never encountered the term “Program Management.”

When I came across it in job descriptions, I thought, “Wait a minute, I’ve been doing this for years — I just didn’t call it program management.” It was eye-opening to realize that the terminology was new to me, but the work itself wasn’t.

The second discovery that caught me off guard was noticing that some companies were hiring for “Product Manager” roles, but after interviews with them, it seemed like they were actually looking for a Program Manager.

It was surreal — almost as if companies were hiring for one title but expecting the responsibilities of another. This raised an important question for me: Are companies clear on what they want? Or is there confusion about these roles?

Product Management vs. Program Management vs. Project Management: Key Differences

With that in mind, I wanted to write about this experience since I think it’s essential to clarify the differences between Product, Program, and Project Management. Here’s a quick breakdown:

Product Management

A product is anything that can be offered in the market to solve a problem or satisfy a need. The Product Manager focuses on the “why”, defines the value proposition, determines how the product differentiates itself in the market, and ensures it meets customer needs while aligning with business goals.

Program Management

Programs consist of multiple interconnected projects that contribute to long-term business objectives. A Program Manager leads the overall program strategy, sets objectives, and evaluates its business impact, ensuring alignment across projects.

Project Management

A project is temporary in that it has a defined beginning and end, and therefore a defined scope and resources. Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet project requirements.

Tips to Apply for the Right Role in Product, Program, and Project Management

In today‘s dynamic job market, a lot of us are seeking new opportunities. To help you navigate this, I’d like to offer guidance to help you make sure you’re applying for the right role and that you understand the distinctions between Product, Program, and Project Management roles.

It’s important to recognize what’s expected from each role so you can better align your skills with the expectations of the position. Look for:

Product Management Roles

  • Do they ask you for an example of a successful product launch you've led?
  • Are they curious about how you create a product vision and strategy?
  • Do they ask how you handle product-market fit or customer feedback to improve the product?
  • Are they looking for insights on how you prioritize product features and balance user needs with business goals?

Program Management Roles

  • Do they focus on your experience working with multiple teams managing different projects concurrently?
  • Are they asking how you ensure cross-functional teams are aligned with overall program goals?
  • Are they interested in your approach to balancing competing priorities and managing risks across the program?
  • Do they ask how you ensure the program meets long-term business objectives?

Project Management Roles

  • Are they asking if you can deliver projects on time and within scope?
  • Do they ask about how you manage project budgets and resources effectively?
  • Are they concerned with how you communicate progress and manage stakeholder expectations?
  • Are they asking for examples of how you've handled changes in project scope or unforeseen challenges?

Product Management vs. Program Management vs. Project Management Roles

If they ask about risk management:

Program Management

  • Are they asking about how you manage risks across multiple projects?
  • Are they asking questions about alignment with the program’s overall strategy?

Project Management

  • Are they asking how you identify and mitigate risks within a specific project?
  • Are they focused on schedule and budget requirements?

Product Management

  • Are they asking how you assess customer-related risks when defining the product roadmap, such as feature prioritization or competitive threats?

If they ask about communication:

Program Management

  • Are they interested in how you communicate across various projects and teams to keep stakeholders aligned and informed at the program level?

Project Management

  • Do they expect you to provide project-specific updates, manage team communication, and ensure everyone is on the same page about milestones and deadlines?

Product Management

  • Are they asking about your ability to communicate the product vision and strategy to different departments to ensure successful development and launch?

This article is meant to guide your conversations with potential employers. It won’t provide definitive answers. Use this information to spark meaningful discussions that can deepen your understanding of the company’s expectations.

It's important to keep in mind that different industries and companies often use varied terminologies and role descriptions.

A PM role is more than its title.

As I reflect on this, I’d like to recognize that some companies may understand the distinctions between these roles but choose not to label them correctly.

For instance, a Product Owner might take on the responsibilities of a Product Manager, while in other cases, a Program Manager can handle project management tasks. Other organizations would treat the Product Manager role as equivalent to a Project Manager.

The goal here isn’t to discourage you or make you the “PM police” during interviews. Rather, it’s about empowering you to make informed decisions about your career, enabling you to ask the right questions and secure a fulfilling work experience.
